What You’ll Learn
The Integrative Medicine and Health Sciences (IMHS) Master Program aims to help students understand and appreciate the principles and philosophies of globally diverse medical systems, to provide skills and foundational knowledge to critically evaluate the various modalities, and to prepare them for advanced education toward careers in clinical care, research, administration, or regulatory affairs and policy related to complementary and integrative medicine.
The program is one year program designed to provide students with a more robust and multi-disciplinary evidence based-approach to healthcare practices. The program focuses on training students to objectively assess the safety and efficacy of various complementary and integrative medicine (CIM) modalities and to introduce scientific rigor into understanding the mechanistic basis for CIM therapies such as acupuncture, massage, herbs and supplements, and mind-body interactions. Students who plan on entering careers in private and public sectors related to CIM research, education, and integrative healthcare, will be provided with a rigorous educational program that incorporates a firm foundation in biomedical science, exposure to CIM disciplines, and competence in evidence assessment.
During the summer, students will partake in a practicum where they will be placed with top CIM-related organizations, putting to practice their learnings and developing real-time problem-solving skills. The practicum should contribute to students’ knowledge of CIM or public health at clinical, basic science, educational, regulatory, and/or public policy levels. This is an opportunity to learn and use practical real-world skills while serving as ambassadors of the IMHS program. Participants receive mentorship throughout the practicum to provide support and help in maximizing their experience.
